Character: Deity Name: Emory Scott Pantheon: Mortal Current Alias: n/a Apparent Age: Late 30s Occupation: Legal assistant
Personality: Emory is both ruthlessly practical, and a hopeless romantic. When he's feeling jocular, he likes to introduce himself as "the mom", and this is not so very inaccurate. He's the rock, the steady uncomplicated unconditional affection; he's what makes the little apartment over the Hallmark store feel like home. This is not to say that he's particularly feminine, or even particularly domestic (although he does do Annika's bake sales proud), but he is, at base, a nurturer.
He's also irreverent, ironic, frequently mischievous, occasionally crude, and wholly unabashed about his colorful personal life. His relationship with Alex is an open one; he has a fairly intense androgyny kink, and a policy of trying anything once. He belongs, though he may not know it, to Hestia and Eros, to Frigg and Freyja and Bes, all the gods of the hearth and the bedchamber.
He is incapable of holding a grudge on his own account, although he is none too fond of Annika's mother, or anyone else who troubles Alex's peace of mind.
History: Born in Asheville, NC, the middle child of three, Emory grew up with remarkably little trauma; his older brother bore the brunt of their parents' expectations, which were not excessive. After dabbling in several exciting fields, he settled to his current prosaic career. In the mid-'90s he came out to his parents, mostly painlessly, and joined his friend Marthe in NYC. There, after a number of romantic adventures, he met Alexander Moore, then a single father of a first-grader and badly in need of caretaking.
Fifteen years later, they're still together. Clearly, this is just asking for trouble.
